Welcome

Welcome to balshanut. I’m not all that interested in blogging – so why did I start a blog? Well, I needed some place to organize my brain. I considered designing a fancy database using cross-indexing and semantic tagging to tie everything together, but then I thought why re-invent the wheel, that’s basically a blog. So here is my brain (at least the part related to the Bible and Linguistics). I hope my thoughts stimulate your research ideas, and I welcome any suggestions or corrections.

So, what’s a balshanut you ask? Well, it is a Hebrew term for linguistics, and it seemed to be as good a name as anything (I also considered *pete, but you can’t use an asterick) since my main interests are Semitic languages and Linguistics. I am currently studying at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. I also have an MDiv from Covenant Theological Seminary in St Louis, and my undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. My engineering background is what drives my interests in Linguistics and computer programming.

If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, feel free to e-mail me at pbekins.at.fuse.dot.net.
